In the last few days, we’ve had visitors in the garden. Some didn’t knock on the door, but they did leave their calling cards to let us know they came around.
I can guess who made those holes, but what creature did the work below?
Birds are always welcome in the garden. Ducks, too.
Other visitors are not welcome at all.
One pair would not be awful but a short time later, I spotted four more. And where six Canada geese gather together, more will certainly come.
The best visitors, though, were people who kept well away from my husband and me. We could hear them laughing, though — clearly they were having fun.
Can you tell what they are doing?
A close-up supplies the answer.
I have happy memories of playing croquet as a child and I am happy to see my daughter and her family following suit.
Did you play croquet as a child? Do you play it now?
I’ve played croquet and enjoyed it. It’s been years though. Pat, I’m missing the visit we would have had this week if the pandemic hadn’t happened and you could have given the Garden Spark talk. Of course we’re well into spring here in Texas, which you would have enjoyed, but just so you know, the wildflower season hasn’t been great, and the bluebonnets are nearly all done already (early this year). I hope that helps with any travel-ban disappointment you may be feeling. 🙂 Pam/Digging: penick.net
I’m looking forward to playing croquet with those grandchildren before too many more weeks pass. Our wildflower season hasn’t started yet and since we had a dusting of snow the other day, I’m not expecting it any time soon.
As a big fan of gardening, I enjoyed reading about your visitors. Also great idea to play croquet! I will try that with my kid 😉 I cannot wait for the first flowers to come out! Anne Marie Rompelman (ps I work at Bishop in Stewardship Relations and fell on your blog while reading about your families legacy at Bishop’s. Any chance that one day you will bring your gardening skills to campus? When we are able to come back, we could use some more flowers out there! 😉
I’m equally eager to see the flowers. Waking up to snow the other day was not a nice surprise!
